Courtney Tailor, aged-26 has been arrested from a rehab facility in Laupahoehoe, Hawaii for stabbing her boyfriend to death. On April 3, 2022, She allegedly stabbed Christian “Toby” Obumseli aged-27 in the shoulder. He died later due to the injuries.
Courtney Clenney who goes by the name Courtney Tailor is a popular OnlyFans and Instagram model with more than 2 million followers. She was staying in rehab for substance abuse and post-traumatic stress. According to Hawaiian Police department, Courtney was taken in custody on August 10, following the arrest warrant issued by Miami-Dade County, Florida, for the offense of murder in the second-degree with a deadly weapon. She will be extradited to Florida. Her initial court appearance is scheduled at Hilo District Court, for August 11, 2022. Until then, She is being held at the East Hawai’i Detention Center.
Her lawyer, Frank Prieto, has expressed shock at the arrest, “I’m completely shocked, especially since we were cooperating with the investigation and offered to voluntarily surrender her if she were charged. We look forward to clearing her name in court.” Prieto also claimed that there’s ‘substantial evidence’ that proves she was a victim of domestic abuse and human trafficking before she stabbed Christian to death.
Act of Self defense, claimed lawyer
He said, on the night of April 3, Obumseli grabbed her by the throat and Courtney was forced to stab him. She then called 911 and claimed she was acting in self-defense. Courtney was seen on a video covered in blood on her high-rise balcony just after the incident. She was taken into custody under Florida’s Baker Act, which protects people at risk of suicide or mental health crisis, but was freed without charge.
Courtney Tailor’ family is outraged, raising voices
Christian’s brother Jeffrey Obumseli and his family have expressed their anger on not charging Courtney for murder. “Courtney is being treated differently because of her privilege as a wealthy White woman,” Jeffrey wrote on Instagram. “We’ve seen videos of Courtney kissing her dogs while covered in what we believe to be my brother’s blood. She was casually getting drinks at a hotel bar days later while my brother lays in the morgue,” he wrote. He was referring to videos that show Clenney at Miami’s Grand Beach hotel days after her boyfriend’s death. However, her lawyer has dismissed the claims. He said Courtney was sitting with her father in the lobby area trying to have drinks, where a random woman started filming them. When asked to stop filming, she refused and told Clenney she should leave ‘because [she] just killed [her] boyfriend.”
Christian was murdered in Florida a week before his 28th birthday. He was extremely compassionate with a desire always to uplift those around him. He did not deserve for his life to be cut short by a heinous act of violence.” The family’s Instagram statement read.The family raised money via GoFundMe for the funeral and to bring the body back to them.
Their strained Relationship Explored
Courtney and Christian, a cryptocurrency trader, were dating for less than two years. Their relationship was very much strained. Police were called to their home in Austin, Texas, on multiple occasions. They moved to Miami in early 2020. The neighbours and residents at their current building also reported several domestic disturbance complaints about the couple. It is to be noted that Courtney has been previously arrested for domestic battery in Las Vegas.
The couple’s friends have made conflicting comments. ”We’ve seen her hit him. I’ve never seen him hit her,” said Ashley Vaughn, one of the couple’s friends.She told the media outlet: ”From what we’ve personally experienced between the both of them, we believe that Christian wouldn’t put her in a position where she would need to stab him to protect herself.”
