The Mumbai-born author, Salman Rushdie was stabbed during an event in New York. The author of ‘The Satanic Verses’ has received death threats for many years.
Attack on Salman Rushdie
During his lecture in New York, the author was stabbed around 15 times. One of the doctors said,
“Salman Rushdie had multiple stab wounds and there was a pool of blood under his body”
Mr, Rushdie has many stab wounds on the right side of the neck and abdomen. After the attack on August 12, Friday, he was lying in a pool of blood under his body. According to a doctor, who helped the controversial author, the attack was brutal. The New York police said,
“Mr Rushdie was attacked and stabbed in the neck on Friday while onstage in Chautauqua in Western New York,”
In the report, the New York Times described the incident in the words of Rita Landman, an endocrinologist.
” Rita Landman, an endocrinologist who was in the audience, walked on stage to offer assistance after the talk. She said that Mr Rushdie had multiple stab wounds, including one to the right side of his neck, and that there was a pool of blood under his body. The assailant, Hadi Matar, 24, who is from Fairview, New Jersey has not said anything. He was detained and held until his arrangements. As per Maj. Eugene Staniszewski, state police, the reason for the attack on the victim is still unknown.

The 75-year-old, author, Rushdie was being introduced on the stage at the Chautauqua Institution when the attacker approached him. One of the Associated Reporters noticed the attacker reaching out to Rushdie before stabbing him 10-15 times. As soon as Rushdie fell into his pool of blood, the attacker got taken into custody.
Even the event moderator, Henry Reese got attacked. Both Rese and Rushdie were rushed to the hospital, where Reese suffered facial injuries. Both of them had scheduled to talk about the US as the heaven for writers and other exiled artists.
Receiving Threats for a Long Time
In 1980, Salman Rushdie received death threats from Iran’s government. However, he never stopped his work, which created further controversies about him.
Despite the fatwa issues against him, he declared he would not hide and continue his work.
He is the co-founder of an organisation that grants independence and support to the authors against repression.
Salman Rushdie Condition
The author of ‘The Satanic Verses’, Salman Rushdie got admitted to the hospital after the attack on Friday. There is a possibility he might lose an eye.
His representative confirmed his sensitive condition and expressed the brutality of the attack. As per him, Rushdie has his liver damaged and one arm’s nerves severed.
Andrew Wylie, in his written statement, talked about Salman’s injuries.
“The news is not good. Salman will likely lose one eye; the nerves in his arm were severed; and his liver was stabbed and damaged,”
Dr Martin Haskball, who jumped to rescue the author, said,
“Rushdie’s injuries were serious but treatable. “
