Who is Julianna Pena?

The former UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion Julianna Nicole Pea was born on August 19, 1989.

She is an American mixed martial artist, who competes in the bantamweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

Julianna was born and raised in Spokane, Washington, the youngest of four siblings.

Julianna earned her high school diploma from Mount Spokane in 2007.

Later on, she enrolled in Spokane Community College. In her early adult years, she joined a cardio kickboxing class. But, She switched to mixed martial arts to lose weight and channel her rage.

The first female champion of The Ultimate Fighter is Pea. She is at No. 3 in the UFC women’s pound-for-pound rankings as of May 9, 2022. She is No. 1 in the women’s bantamweight rankings as of August 1, 2022.

What happened to Julianna Pena at UFC 277?

The 32-year-old Washington star faced Amanda Nunes Friday night at UFC 277 in Texas.

Pena received three knockdowns and a glaring wound as a result. before the judges awarded Nunes the victory by scores of 50-45, 50-44, and 50-43.

But she received numerous horrifying punches to the head. As a result, her appearance resembled something from a horror film as blood spilled down her face.

Dana White revealed that she is taken to a specialist right away after the judges declared that she had lost.

 UFC chief Dana White said :

“Julianna’s got a big chunk missing from her forehead. She’s going to see a plastic surgeon right now.”

Then, he acknowledged that it might spell the end of Pena’s remarkable career. Her career saw her win the UFC bantamweight title by defeating Nunes in a big upset last December.

Additionally, Dana White added: “It takes some time to heal, and then I don’t know. She got pretty banged up tonight, she got five or six knockdowns in the first two rounds. Julianna Pena was hurt. She needs to take some time off and relax. She needs to spend some time with her daughter and then we will go from there.”

Here is what Nunes said in the post-fight interview

After the match, Nunes talked with ESPN MMA and stated

“I told you guys, I am better wrestling than her. I have many opportunities to finish her (Pena) on the floor. But, You know what… I am gonna prove even more to her that I can dominate her right here tonight so I did it.” 

After a challenging five-round battle, Nunes answered the question ” does it give any satisfaction?”:

“This is what I want it to be, to do big things, I don’t accept anything less than that. I thank life for showing me things that are unbelievable. The energy it provides makes me the person I am today.”
